Krakow, Souris & Landry, LLC is a Boston-based law firm that specializes exclusively in representing labor unions and their fringe benefit funds (pension, annuity, health & welfare, apprenticeship, labor-management, etc.). Founded in 1997 by Aaron Krakow and Christopher Souris, the firm today proudly represents a wide range of public and private sector labor union and fringe benefit fund clients throughout all six New England states, as well as New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and the District of Columbia.  The firm’s current partners each has decades of legal experience dedicated to the specialized needs of labor unions and their affiliated fringe benefit funds.

 

OUR ATTORNEYS

Aaron D. Krakow

Aaron graduated with honors from the Boston University School of Law in 1984. Since then, his practice of law has consisted exclusively of representing labor unions and their affiliated fringe benefit funds. In 1997, he and Christopher Souris founded the firm. He is admitted to practice law in Massachusetts, as well as in the United States Courts of Appeals for the First and District of Columbia Circuits, and the United States District Courts in Massachusetts and Vermont. He is a member of the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Funds and the AFL-CIO Union Lawyers Alliance.

Christopher N. Souris

Christopher graduated with honors from New York Law School in 1983. He served as a Law Clerk to the Chief Judge of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York from 1983-84. Since then, his practice has consisted exclusively of representing labor unions and their affiliated fringe benefit funds, first in New York City and, since 1989, in New England. In 1997, he and Aaron Krakow founded the firm. He is admitted to practice law in Massachusetts and New York, as well as in the US Supreme Court, the US Courts of Appeals for the First, Second and District of Columbia Circuits, and the US District Courts in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. He is a member of the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Funds and the AFL-CIO Union Lawyers Alliance.

Thomas R. Landry

Tom graduated from the Northeastern University School of Law in 1999. Since then, his practice has consisted exclusively of representing labor unions and their affiliated fringe benefit funds in New England. Prior to joining the firm in 2012, Tom spent five years with the National Education Association of Rhode Island, serving as an assistant executive director and, prior to that, with a firm representing labor unions and fringe benefit funds. He is admitted to practice law in the Massachusetts and Rhode Island, as well as in the US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and the US District Courts in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. He is a member of the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Funds and the AFL-CIO Union Lawyers Alliance.

Colby J. Jackson

Colby graduated from Boston College Law School in 2016.  Before joining Krakow, Souris & Landry in 2018, Colby worked with a law firm in Rhode Island representing labor unions and affiliated benefit funds. He is admitted to practice law in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, as well as the US District Court in Massachusetts.  He is a member of the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Funds and the AFL-CIO Union Lawyers Alliance.

Kaitlin D. Riessen

Kaitlin graduated from Suffolk University School of Law in 2018. Before joining Krakow, Souris & Landry in 2020, Kaitlin worked with a firm in Minneapolis, MN representing labor unions and their affiliated fringe benefit funds, primarily in the midwest. While in law school, she worked full-time as a law clerk at a firm specializing in health care. Prior to law school, she worked as a Client Service Manager for a third-party administrator, where she worked exclusively with Taft-Hartley fringe benefit funds. She is admitted to practice law in Massachusetts and Minnesota. She is a member of the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Funds and the AFL-CIO Union Lawyers Alliance.

Thomas T. Henry

Thomas graduated from Suffolk University Law School in 2021. Throughout law school, he worked as a student law clerk and, after admission to the bar, as an associate with a firm representing labor unions and affiliated fringe benefit funds. Prior to law school, he worked for over 5 years as a Union business agent. He is admitted to practice law in Massachusetts. He is a member of the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Funds and the AFL-CIO Union Lawyers Alliance.

PRACTICE AREAS
The firm’s areas of expertise include all aspects of representing unions including organizing, collective bargaining, mediation, grievances and arbitration. We appear on behalf of our clients at the National Labor Relations Board and the Department of Labor, and in federal and state courts and numerous federal and state agencies on matters concerning organizing, strikes, picketing, corporate campaigns, unfair labor practices, federal and state campaign finance laws, public bidding and prevailing wage laws, and discrimination and fair representation claims.

Labor/Management Relations

The firm provides legal services to various types of fringe benefit funds, including pension and retirement funds, health and welfare funds, journeyman and apprentice training funds and labor management cooperation trust funds. Retirement and health & welfare funds operate in an increasingly complex legal environment that requires legal support with a broad range of experience and qualification in order to operate in compliance with today’s regulatory requirements.

The firm provides unions with advice on handling internal governance matters that arise under their constitutions and by-laws, as well as representing them in connection with claims against unions by members under federal and state laws relating to union membership.
